Dr. Juan Antonio Carrillo-Norte is currently a Full Professor and Head of the Department of Medical-Surgical Therapeutics at the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, University of Extremadura, Spain. He earned his Medical Doctor degree and Doctorate in Medicine and Surgery from the University of Extremadura in 1986 and 1992, respectively, receiving an extraordinary doctoral award in 1994 for his outstanding academic contributions. He specialized in Clinical Pharmacology in 2001.

His research career includes a prestigious postdoctoral fellowship at the Karolinska Institute, Sweden, where he conducted groundbreaking research in Clinical Pharmacology. His research has significantly contributed to the fields of pharmacogenetics, clinical pharmacology, and psychopharmacology, through his involvement in numerous research projects and clinical trials, advancing our understanding of genetic and environmental influences on drug metabolism, genetic factors affecting drug response, and psychiatric pharmacotherapy.

He has authored over 100 articles in prestigious international journals and contributed to influential book chapters, showcasing his expertise and significant influence within the scientific community.

Professionally, Dr. Carrillo-Norte played a pivotal role as Coordinator of the Extremadura Regional Pharmacovigilance Center, where he established the Spontaneous Reporting Program for Adverse Drug Reactions (Yellow Card Program) in the Region of Extremadura, Spain. He also served as a member of the National Technical Committee on Pharmacovigilance at the Spanish Agency of Medicines and Medical Devices (AEMPs).
